March 18, 2012The New Rochelle YMCA Sailfish Swim Team sent 37 swimmers to Buffalo, NY to compete at Y States. The team finished 11th out of 42 Y's that competed over the 3 day meet. There were tons of top times and finishes by all who competed at the meet. Congratulations to Vanessa Ruiz for winning both the 50 and 100yd Freestyle events setting new Sailfish Records and Victoria Tillman for winning the 50yd Breaststroke. The girls 13-14 200yd Freestyle Relay of Sarah Betts, Sydni Johnson, and Anna Johnson won the event and just missed the state record by .5 seconds while also qualifying for Sectionals. The older boys relay of Jorge Serafin, Rafael Duran, Brinsley Johnson and Andrew Yang also qualified for Sectionals. Congratulations to Brinsley Johnson for setting new team records in the 100yd Butterfly and 200IM.

Sailfish Swimming finished 2nd overall at the Westchester Fairfield Swim League Championships. Sailfish swimmers won multiple events and had top 16 finishes in every event at League Championships. Congratulations to Victoria Tillman, Shaun Johnson, and Kaitlyn Forsyth for earning high point awards in their age groups

Congrats to Vanessa Ruiz and Shaun Johnson for making the Metropolitan Swimming Zone team at Zone Quals. Vanessa broke 2 team records and also made her first Sectional Cut and Y-Nationals cut. Shaun broke a team record and qualified for 3 events at Zones.
The New Rochelle YMCA Sailfish Swim Team is a year round swim club made up of swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18. Our swimmers reside in a number of surrounding communities, including New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Pelham, The Bronx, Larchmont and Mamaroneck. Practice is held seven days a week using a split squad schedule.
Sailfish Swimming provides an environment for swimmers to Love and Grow in the sport of swimming through hard work and dedication, Swimmers on the team obtain the skills to compete, as well as thorough knowledge of swimming mechanics, stroke efficiency, and race strategy. During the course of the swim season, our swimmers learn to self-evaluate and correct their skills, as they work toward achieving mastery. Sailfish Swimming welcomes all swimmers who desire to make the transition from learn-to-swim or recreational swimming to competitive swimming.
